In Miksang Level II, we continue our exploration of connecting directly to our world, continuing to expand on the basic elements of the Level I assignments. We explore what is it like to drop our agendas of what makes a good picture, as we allow the people and things of our world to touch us, without separation.

This is a weekend of the heart, an opening to the phenomenal world, a communion with connection. We relax; we rest in ourselves and our world. We see what we see, and we take our photographs, exploring all the while the connection between mind, body, and world.

The assignments in this phase of the training explore the diverse possibilities of contemplative vision. Since there are endless fields of perception, the specific assignments orient to some of the forms of this vision. Our explorations in the wonderful landscape of Katy may include: The Way of Seasons – with particular emphasis on Visual Haiku; the Way of Flowers and Grasses; Ordinary World and Personal World; Impressionism; Landscapes, large and small; People and Other Sentient Beings; and Metropolitan Beauty.

Miksang, or “good eye” in Tibetan, is a process of learning to synchronize mind and body, allowing one to open to the world without labeling or evaluating. This first level of training in Miksang contemplative photography purifies our visual perception by working directly with the elements of the visual field: color, light, form, and space. This class includes instructions, assignments, and image reviews. No previous photographic experience is necessary, but participants will need a digital camera.
The Shambhala Meditation Center Generosity Policy allows anyone to participate fully in the life of our Centre regardless of his or her ability to contribute financially. They welcome participants to donate less or more than the suggested amounts as they choose. Please contact Lilly De Haven  lillydeh@gmail.com  Finance Manager to make payment arrangements or to apply the Generosity Policy.
